Climate study: Nevada faces drought

At top of Greenland, new cracks in ice

An 11-square-mile chunk of ice is hemorrhaging off a prominent glacier in northern Greenland. The crack, at center, right, is seven miles long and about half a mile wide. It is about half the width of the 500-square-mile floating part of the glacier. If the cracking continues, the floating part of the glacier could lose up to one third of its size. In northern Greenland, new satellite images show a growing giant crack and an 11-square-mile chunk of ice hemorrhaging off a major glacier.

Arctic park closes due to heat, floods

Flood damage in a valley inside Canada's Auyuittuq National Park is seen Tuesday. Temperatures average 54 degrees F at the park, but had been as high as 81 F recently.A major national park in Canada's Arctic has been largely closed after record high temperatures caused flooding that washed away hiking trails and forced the evacuation of tourists.

Giant chunks break off Arctic ice shelf

This satellite image shows a large, rectangular chunk of ice at center that broke away from the Ward Hunt Ice Shelf. Other pieces also broke away from the shelf.Giant sheets of ice totaling almost eight square miles broke off an ice shelf in the Canadian Arctic last week and more could follow later this year, scientists said on Tuesday.
